There’s important news regarding updates to the domain registration process, effective immediately. These changes are in line with a new policy from ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), aimed at streamlining and improving how domain data is handled across the board.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s changing and how it may affect you:
One of the biggest changes is how WHOIS data is displayed. If your domain’s registrant contact currently lists an organisation, that information will no longer be visible in the public WHOIS/RDDS lookup. However, if you've previously opted to display your organization information, that will still be shown. Essentially, this change helps protect privacy while ensuring that only essential information is publicly available.
Domain Registrars are streamlining the contact information they collect. Going forward, they’ll only be asking for the minimum amount of data required by each registry. For most domains, this means only need the registrant contact info. However, keep in mind that some country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) may still require additional administrative, billing, or technical contact details.
Any extra contact information that is no longer necessary will be removed from the system. This includes data that’s not required by the new ICANN policy or specific registry rules. It’s all part of cleaning up the system to make sure only the relevant details are kept.
These changes are designed to ensure that our domain registration process stays in line with the latest global standards, while also enhancing privacy and reducing unnecessary data collection.
